Guide: How to join your guild and create your character
Open Roster > Unclaimed Characters, or press Claim an existing character beneath the character cards on your own member profile. This page helps you link a character that already exists to your profile, keeping its lists and history.
Who can claim a character?
You must be an active member of the guild. Claiming is available if the guild enables Allow members to claim unassigned characters under Guild > Settings > Members, or you have character-edit permission (edit.characters). The setting defaults to off. When neither applies, the page shows Character claiming is disabled instead of the character list.
Only active characters without an assigned member are offered. Archived characters and characters already owned by someone are unavailable. Claiming always assigns the character to yourself, including for officers. To assign a different member or correct ownership, an authorized editor can use the Edit Characters page or the full character editor.
How do I search or sort the list?
Choose any combination of filters, then press Search to reload matching guild records.
| Control | What it does |
|---|---|
| Search characters | Finds part of a character's name. An empty field includes all names. |
| Class | Limits results to one class; All classes removes this filter. Class choices and the selected class use class colors. |
| Raid group | Filters by the character's main raid group. No raid group finds characters without one; All raid groups removes this filter. Group choices and the selected group use their group's color. |
| Per page | Loads 10, 25, or 50 results per page; the default is 25. |
Click Character or Created to sort that column and reload the page. Choosing a different column starts descending: names from Z to A, or newest-created characters first. Clicking the same column again reverses it. The initial view sorts names from A to Z. Only one column sorts at a time; the other columns are not sortable. On a small screen, use the Sort by links above the character cards.
Sorting keeps the filters and returns to the first page. Pagination keeps both the filters and sorting. Searches and sorting apply to the full matching list, not just the currently displayed rows. If no results match, change the filters or choose Clear filters when offered.
What does each row show?
| Column | What it shows |
|---|---|
| Character | A profile link in the character's class color. |
| Class / Spec | The saved class and specialization, when known. |
| Raid group | The main raid group in its group color, or None. |
| Created | How long ago the character record was created on TMB, such as 25d ago or 2 months ago. Hover or focus it to see the exact date and time in your browser's local time zone. This is not the last edit or an in-game creation date. |
| Archived | No, in green, because this page lists active characters only. Archived characters are excluded from claiming. |
| Claim | Claims the character for your profile. |
Light grey borders separate the rows. Your characters opens your member profile.
How do I claim mine?
- Check the character name.
- Press Claim in the character's row.
- Answer Yes to Is [character name] your character? Choose No to cancel.
After success, the row shows Claimed by you and a View character link. You stay on this page so you can claim an alt as well. The remaining-unclaimed count updates; the claimed row is gone from the list next time it reloads. The claim is recorded in the audit log.
If someone assigns the character before your claim finishes, the row reports that it is unavailable instead of moving their character to you. If access changes or your session expires, reload the page before trying again.
You can also open an eligible character profile and use its highlighted Claim this character button. That button submits immediately, without the list's Yes/No prompt. Claiming preserves the saved character and its history; it does not bypass wishlist or received-loot editing locks.
What if I claim the wrong character?
A completed claim has no Undo button. Ask someone with character-edit permission to open Roster > Edit Characters, find the character, choose Unassigned under Member, and press that row's Save. They can also choose the correct member directly. Correcting ownership on the existing record keeps its lists and history together. See Edit Characters for the row controls.
